Community Involvement

Community Involvement is the mainstay to a successful VFW chapter. The Dan Jackson Post is continually looking for opportunities to help, participate, and support our Oxford, University, and Lafayette County community.

This is just a sample of the current activities VFW Post 3978 has participated in:

Commander Randal Loyed presents the VFW CAP Cadet Officer award and ribbon to c/LTC Sarah Howard of the Oxford Civil Air Patrol Squadron MS-050. She is also a cadet officer with the Ole Miss Air Force ROTC detachment.

Chaplain James Petermann presents the Air Force ROTC award and ribbon for achievement to Cadet Matthew Porter at the annual Detachment 430 Dining Out.

The Oxford Police Department Honor Guard Retiring the Colors at the Memorial Day Ceremony May 2010.

Mayor Pat Patterson welcoming the attendees at the Memorial Day Ceremony May 2010. Many veterans groups were participating.

Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen programs were conducted with excellent participation this year. (we won at District 11) Our Boy Scout of the Year was submitted and we look forward to our Teacher of the Year submission.

Post 3978 presents achievement awards to the JROTC and ROTC units based in the Oxford area. They are located at Lafayette HS, Oxford HS, and the University of Mississippi.

Post 3978 in conjunction with other veteran organizations hosts the Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and 911 Remembrance services for Lafayette County and the City of Oxford.

We are fortunate to have a State Veterans Home located in our community. The post members and the Ladies Auxiliary host Holiday and monthly events for the residents and staff.
